Mohawk Area (Bessemer, Pa.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Gio Menichino ran for a touchdown with 10:00 to go, bringing the team to victory over
Lincoln (Ellwood City, Pa.) 28-21.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at seven. The Warriors took the lead for good on a Menichino touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Menichino was the top performer for Mohawk Area. The sophomore quarterback ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown.
The Wolverine's
Jared Meyers played well. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Lincoln took, 38-7.
The victory was a step in the right direction for MA, which was coming off a 48-0 defeat at the hands of Aliquippa in its previous game. The loss comes after Lincoln defeated Riverside 42-28 last week.
In a WPIAL AA Midwestern game next week Lincoln (1-5) takes on Aliquippa, and Mohawk Area (2-4) will go up against Beaver also in a WPIAL AA Midwestern game.
