Softball Recap: Mountain Grove Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Mountain Grove took on Thayer on Monday. The Panthers fell 5-1 to the Bobcats. The game marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Hannah Dowden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Stella Benson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Benson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Mountain Grove now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Thayer, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Grove will take on Van Buren at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Thayer, they will venture away from home to square off against Alton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
