Softball Game Preview: Elkins Tigers vs. Fairmont Senior Polar Bears

The Elkins Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairmont Senior took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Elkins, who comes in off a win.

Elkins will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against East Fairmont on Thursday. The Tigers walked away with a 17-12 victory over the Bees. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Madyson Shreve, who went 4-for-6 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Riffle, who went 4-for-6 with four runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Fairmont Senior fell victim to Grafton and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 11-0 to the Bearcats. The Polar Bears have struggled against the Bearcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Elkins' victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-10 and their overall record up to 6-13. As for Fairmont Senior, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.

Elkins might still be hurting after the 17-5 loss they got from Fairmont Senior when the teams last played back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
