Volleyball Preview: Centaurus Warriors vs. Erie Tigers
Centaurus is 0-4 against Erie since August of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Centaurus Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Erie Tigers at 6:30 p.m.
Last Thursday, Centaurus came up short against Horizon and fell 3-1. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21.
Meanwhile, Erie had already won ten in a row and they went ahead and made it 11 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Eagles.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Erie who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 17-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Erie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Avery Malek, who had 19 digs and three aces. Malek is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige VanderWeit, who had eight digs and 11 assists.
Erie was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in 14 consecutive contests.
Centaurus' loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Erie, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Centaurus might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Erie in their previous meeting back in September of 2021. Can Centaurus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
