Recap: Mt. Olive Wildcats vs. South County Vipers

The Mt. Olive Wildcats suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against South County, falling 58-28. While losing is never fun, Mt. Olive can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 759th, while South County is ranked 187th).

Mt. Olive's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Matthew Bywater, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and seven steals, and Dexter Frizzo who scored nine points along with two steals. Frizzo continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Mt. Olive bumped their record down to 3-15 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for South County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-6.

Mt. Olive will take on Carlinville at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Carlinville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Wednesday. As for South County, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Pawnee at 6:00 a.m. on January 16th.
