Basketball Recap: Houston County Takes a Loss

Houston County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by the McEwen Warriors and fell 84-56. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Irish can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Warriors are ranked 101st).

Leading McEwen to victory were Shana Bohanon and Laila Downs. Bohanon dropped a double-double on 28 points and 20 boards, while Downs dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. The match was Downs' 19th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Branch, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Houston County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for McEwen, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

Houston County has already played their next game (against Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. McEwen has already played their next contest, a 75-51 victory against McKenzie on the 20th.
