Baseball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Bisbee Pumas

The Morenci Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Bisbee Pumas at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Morenci has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Bisbee will arrive with five straight victories.

Morenci lost 11-2 to Willcox on Thursday.

Morenci saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christopher Lopez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Bisbee sidestepped Tombstone for a 4-3 win.

The team relied heavily on Sebastian Lopez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Horacio Olivarria was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Bisbee pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Morenci, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morenci has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bisbee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Morenci came out on top in a nail-biter against Bisbee when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morenci since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
