Softball Game Preview: Birmingham Patriots vs. El Camino Real Royals

The Birmingham Patriots will head out to challenge the El Camino Real Royals at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Birmingham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Birmingham is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Granada Hills Charter just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 9-3 to the Highlanders.

Birmingham saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jazmine Olmos, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, El Camino Real made easy work of Taft on Monday and carried off a 17-5 victory. Considering the Royals have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Audrina Gonzalez looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, El Camino Real got a massive performance out of Sarah Delgado, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Amaya Perry, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

El Camino Real was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for El Camino Real and bumps their season record up to 14-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Birmingham, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Birmingham took their win against El Camino Real in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
