Baseball Recap: East Providence Takes Down Ranked La Salle Academy

East Providence faced La Salle Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Townies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Rams. For the Townies, this counts as revenge for the 5-1 victory the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

East Providence got a great performance from Dylan Annicelli as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Annicelli is becoming a predictor of the Townies' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Oliver Andrews, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Aidan Martins, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

East Providence's record is now 11-6. As for La Salle Academy, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Providence will square off against North Kingstown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Townies 2.6, the Skippers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for La Salle Academy, they will challenge Mt. Hope at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
