Baseball Recap: Clarke Prep Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

Clarke Prep's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Bessemer Academy Rebels by a score of 15-12. That's the first time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 15-12 win on Thursday.

Gray Wilson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Brody Bradford and John Allen Powell did most of the damage at the plate: Bradford went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Powell got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Clarke Prep is undefeated when Powell posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brady Francia, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Clarke Prep has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Bessemer Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-19-1.
