Softball Recap: Richmond Comes Up Short

Richmond extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They came up short against the Swett Warriors, falling 20-7. If the Oilers were looking for revenge after losing 18-0 to the Warriors when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Swett, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by nine runs or more this season.

For Swett's part, Rebekah Millan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Millan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Sanaia Tuuu was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Selene Schlepp was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richmond will take on El Cerrito at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Oilers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gauchos have averaged an impressive 15.3 runs per game this season. As for Swett, they will square off against Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
