Preview: Berthoud Spartans vs. Resurrection Christian Cougars
Berthoud has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Resurrection Christian Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Berthoud will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Resurrection Christian is ranked 48th).
Berthoud suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Saturday. They were the victim of a tough 59-35 loss at the hands of The Classical Academy. Berthoud found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 13 fewer assists than your opponent.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Meg Hidalgo, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Avery Pfohl was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Even though Resurrection Christian has not done well against Lutheran recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Resurrection Christian walked away with a 44-35 win over Lutheran. The win was just what Resurrection Christian needed coming off of a 58-31 defeat in their prior contest.
Resurrection Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Klein out in front who scored 13 points along with two steals. Klein is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Flikkema, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Berthoud has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Resurrection Christian, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3.
Berthoud was able to grind out a solid win over Resurrection Christian in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 56-48. Does Berthoud have another victory up their sleeve, or will Resurrection Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
