Basketball Recap: Markell Carothers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Gaston over Forestview

It was a proper cat-fight when North Gaston took on Forestview on Monday. The North Gaston Wildcats fell to the Forestview Jaguars 65-59. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

North Gaston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markell Carothers, who went 9 of 18 en route to 22 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Carothers has posted since back in February of 2024. Kameron Dial also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Forestview's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josiah Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quinton Rybczyk, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten steals.

This is the second loss in a row for North Gaston and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for Forestview, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-7.

North Gaston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 102-74 defeat against Kings Mountain on the 14th. Forestview has also already played their next matchup, an 85-56 loss against Ashbrook on the 14th.
