Softball Recap: Fairmont Senior Triumphs

Fairmont Senior lost to Preston back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Polar Bears had just enough and edged out the Knights 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Polar Bears have posted against the Knights since April 11, 2018.

Sadie Rundle and Shyanne Rowe did most of the damage at the plate: Rundle scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Rowe scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Rundle also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Camdyn Staron was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Fairmont Senior kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Fairmont Senior now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Preston, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairmont Senior will host Buckhannon-Upshur at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Preston, they will be playing at home against North Marion at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
