Soccer Preview: Kirtland vs. Wellington
The Kirtland Hornets will take on the Wellington Dukes in a tournament on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Kirtland took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand Waterloo an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Kirtland, who have now won six contests by three goals or more so far this season.
Their offense was hitting Waterloo from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Eli Johnson led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by himself.
Meanwhile, Wellington's game on Thursday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They beat Lake Center Christian by a goal, winning 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for Wellington.
Kirtland's win bumped their record up to 8-6-3. As for Wellington, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
