Recap: Mattawan Wildcats vs. Portage Northern Huskies
The Mattawan Wildcats''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 51-14 loss at the hands of Portage Northern. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mattawan in their matchups with Portage Northern: they've now lost six in a row.
Mattawan's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Portage Central and 6-3 Lowell (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.1% over those games). As for Portage Northern, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.
Mattawan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Portage Northern will head out on the road to face off against Caledonia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Caledonia is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
