Softball Preview: Baker Gators vs. Paxton Bobcats
Baker is 2-8 against Paxton since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Gators will take on the Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. Baker will be strutting in after a victory while Paxton will be coming in after a defeat.
Baker is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Booker T. Washington on Monday as they made off with a 26-8 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Gators needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Zoe Moncada and Bayleigh Jernigan did most of the damage at the plate: Moncada got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double, while Jernigan got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave Jernigan a new career-high. Addalyn St. John was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.
Baker kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paxton faced off against Red Level on Monday. The Bobcats fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-6.
Avionnah Padgett put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Padgett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Emily Ward made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Baker's record is now 10-8. As for Paxton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
