Baseball Game Preview: University Trojans vs. Sonora Raiders

The University Trojans will square off against the Sonora Raiders at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (University: 3, Sonora: 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Last Tuesday, University beat Pacifica Christian 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Andrew Shean looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, University's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was David Wu, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that Wu snagged this season. Luke Emrich was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Sonora suffered their closest loss since February 27, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of California by a score of 3-1.

Caleb Orr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Sonora hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as California struck out 12 times.

University's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Sonora, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. University has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Sonora struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
