Softball Recap: Grand County Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Grand County came out on top against Kanab on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Red Devils never let the Cowboys get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Chloe Byrd was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danika Hirschfeld, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Elizabeth Redd also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Grand County lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Grand County and bumps their season record up to 11-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Kanab, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-20.
