Basketball Recap: Carrizozo Takes a Loss

Carrizozo lost against Hondo Valley back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Grizzlies took a blow against the Eagles, falling 47-16. The contest marked the Grizzlies' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Hondo Valley was led to victory by Kaylee Gomez and Makailah Gonzales. Gomez posted 17 points, while Gonzales scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Dream Weaver, who earned eight points.

Carrizozo is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5. As for Hondo Valley, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-5 record.

Carrizozo will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Tularosa at 4:00 p.m. on January 2, 2026. As for Hondo Valley, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Clovis Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
