Baseball Recap: Molalla Starts off Right with Win over Newport

Molalla gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Newport Cubs by a score of 11-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Indians also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2016.

Kyler Dickerson tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Molalla saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camdyn Morey, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Morey a new career-high in runs. Mason Mead was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Molalla will venture away from home to challenge Stayton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newport, they will challenge Astoria at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
