Lane Tech dropped down to 17-9 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Taft Eagles, falling 11-3. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Champions, who fell 5-3 when the teams last met back in May of 2025.
Madison Shraiberg made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Arianna Marin was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
As for Taft, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-5. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 14 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Taft's side, Michaela Power made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Power has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double.
In other batting news, Gabriela Gonzalez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bianca Fernandez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Lane Tech will head out to face off against Conant at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Champions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Taft, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Warren Township at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
