Basketball Recap: Nina Rodriguez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Perry

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jackson, Mentor was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-41 victory over the Perry Pirates. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Pirates are ranked 357th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mentor's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nina Rodriguez, who posted nine points along with seven boards and five assists. Hailey Watson was another key player, putting up ten points.

Mentor's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Perry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Mentor wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-47 win against St. Joseph Academy on the 30th. As for Perry, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-47 victory against Madison on the 4th.
