Basketball Game Preview: Mount Pleasant Tigers vs. Newton-Conover Red Devils

The Mount Pleasant Tigers will take on the Newton-Conover Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mount Pleasant knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Newton-Conover likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Mount Pleasant humbled North Stanly with a 59-31 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Newton-Conover came up short against Maiden on Tuesday and fell 79-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (56), the Red Devils still had to take the loss.

Mount Pleasant will have to contain Braxton Eckard as he made an impact in Newton-Conover's last game. He to rack up 35 points and five rebounds. The contest was Eckard's fourth in a row with at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zay Derr, who posted nine points and seven boards.

Mount Pleasant is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.7 points. Newton-Conover's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.
