Soccer Game Preview: Sumter vs. Westwood

The Sumter Gamecocks will take on the Westwood Redhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westwood took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Sumter, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Sumter needed a bit of extra time to put away Ridge View. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Blazers 2-1. The win continues a trend for Sumter in their matchups with Ridge View: they've now won four in a row.

Cole Denton was the driving force of Sumter's attack as he scored both of Sumter's goals, bringing his season total up to two goals.

Meanwhile, Westwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Florence. While losing is never fun, Westwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 187th, while West Florence are ranked 21st).

Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Sumter, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-5.

Sumter took their win against Westwood in their previous meeting back in February of 2015 by a conclusive 4-1. Does Sumter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Westwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
