Basketball Recap: Teague Lions vs. Mexia Black Cats

The Teague Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Mexia on the road and fell 95-42. While losing is never fun, Teague can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1081st, while the Black Cats are ranked 398th).

Teague's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Joshua Owens, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Clifford Coleman who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Owens scored 15 or more points.

Teague has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Mexia, they pushed their record up to 21-11 with that victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.

Teague will take on the Elks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhart has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 30. As for Mexia, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bison at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
