Basketball Recap: New Castle Trojans vs. Yorktown Tigers
New Castle and Yorktown squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but New Castle had to settle for second. They took a 32-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yorktown Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 254th, while the Tigers are ranked 70th).
New Castle lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Carlee Lanzer, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 13 points. That was a full 50% of New Castle's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Mallory Owens was another key player, putting up five points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, New Castle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Leading Yorktown to victory were Lilly Sylvester and Olivia Conklin. Sylvester dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards, while Conklin scored 14 points.
