Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Augusta

Augusta had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Whitehall Vikings 13-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-4 back in March.

Laney O'Brien made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cecelia Schroeder, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Stella Zank, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Augusta's record now sits at 17-4. As for Whitehall, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Augusta will challenge Independence/Gilmanton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Whitehall, they will square off against Mondovi at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buffaloes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
