It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Basalt ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Gunnison Cowboys 15-14. While the Longhorns didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Nate Donnelly was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Donnelly was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Elias Schendler was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Karson Schneider, who scored two runs while going 4-for-6.

Basalt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Basalt's record now sits at 6-3. As for Gunnison, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Basalt will face off against Roaring Fork at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Longhorns are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Gunnison, they will take on Delta at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
