Basketball Recap: Escondido Charter Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Del Lago Academy came into Friday's contest looking for another win against Escondido Charter, but Joe Scates wouldn't allow it. The Escondido Charter Tigers snuck past the Del Lago Academy Firebirds with a 55-50 victory on Friday thanks in part to Scates, who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 12 boards, and nine assists. What's more, he also racked up four steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2024.

Max Mowrey was another key player, going 6 of 9 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played.

Escondido Charter has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Del Lago Academy, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escondido Charter will take on Army-Navy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Army-Navy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Escondido Charter likes a good challenge. As for Del Lago Academy, they will face off against Valhalla at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Valhalla's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Del Lago Academy has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
