Softball Recap: Sumter Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Sumter had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Westwood Redhawks. That's more bragging rights for the Gamecocks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lillie Ivey made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Remy Shauf was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Avery Link, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Sumter's record is now 10-11. As for Westwood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

Sumter has already played their next contest, a 19-11 loss against East Clarendon on the 29th. Hopefully Westwood paid attention to the Gamecocks' matchup: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Gamecocks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
