Basketball Recap: Franklin Academy Takes a Loss

Franklin Academy easily dispatched Falls Lake last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Franklin Academy Patriots fell just short of the NCSSM: Durham Unicorns by a score of 61-59 on Monday. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Unicorns earlier this season, when they won 67-53.

Despite the loss, Franklin Academy still got an impressive performance from Aiden Henrie, who went 8-for-14 en route to 21 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Henrie a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Micah Rutledge, who posted four points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Franklin Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Leading NCSSM: Durham to victory were Jay Peng and Ethann Burkett. Peng went 7-for-11 on his way to 18 points and four steals, while Burkett went 5-for-11 to rack up 17 points. Peng is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Chen, who went 7-for-9 en route to 14 points.

Franklin Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for NCSSM: Durham, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Franklin Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-62 loss against Vance Charter on the 5th. As for NCSSM: Durham, they have also already played their next contest, a 63-50 victory against East Wake Academy on the 4th.
