Softball Recap: Southwest Edgecombe Beats Hobgood Charter for Their Sixth Straight Win

SouthWest Edgecombe entered their tilt with Hobgood Charter on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 13-3 win. 13 seems to be a good number for the Cougars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Mackenzie Rogers and Alana Carroll made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rogers struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Carroll tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rogers scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Carroll scored two runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits Rogers has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deniya Mayo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Mackenzie Moore was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

SouthWest Edgecombe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

SouthWest Edgecombe pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hobgood Charter, they moved to 5-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, SouthWest Edgecombe will face off against Ayden - Grifton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
