Softball Recap: Concord Academy Takes a Loss

If Concord Academy was feeling good fresh off their 13-7 takedown of Hickory Grove Christian on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles lost 15-5 to the Lions on Monday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 13-7.

Caisyn Berg was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Milee Amburn made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two triples and one run.

Concord Academy dropped their record down to 4-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Hickory Grove Christian, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 8-10.

Looking ahead, Concord Academy will challenge Metrolina Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hickory Grove Christian, they will square off against Forsyth Home Educators at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
