Football Recap: South Effingham Mustangs vs. Brunswick Pirates
South Effingham lost against Brunswick back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mustangs were dealt a 46-19 defeat at the hands of the Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Pirates are ranked 97th).
Although South Effingham took the loss, they still got scores from Danny Murtha, Jayden Hair, and Maddox Vasquez.
Josiah Gibbons was his usual excellent self, rushing for 166 yards and two scores on only seven carries for Brunswick. Gibbons' longest rush was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Heze Kent, who gained 98 total yards and two touchdowns.
South Effingham has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Brunswick, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
