Baseball Game Preview: Toms River North Mariners vs. St. Rose Purple Roses

For the second straight game, Toms River North will face off against St. Rose. The Mariners will be playing in front of their home fans against the Purple Roses at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Toms River North came out on top against St. Rose on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Mariners blew past the Purple Roses 9-1. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Mariners this season.

Steven Nuber looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Jason Verderrosa and Ian St. Luce did most of the damage at the plate: Verderrosa went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while St. Luce went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits St. Luce has posted since back in April. Vin Vergona also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Toms River North's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-9. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for St. Rose, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.
