Preview: Lawrence Golden Tornadoes vs. Friends Academy Quakers
Lawrence is 0-3 against Friends Academy since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lawrence Golden Tornadoes will head out on the road to challenge the Friends Academy Quakers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lawrence has struggled recently with 19 losses in a row, while Friends Academy will arrive with 13 straight wins.
Last Monday, Lawrence had to suffer through a rough 61-28 loss at the hands of Malverne.
Meanwhile, Friends Academy didn't have too much trouble with North Shore on the road on Monday as they won 68-50.
Friends Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joshua Alexander mckenzie, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson O'Brien, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Lawrence dropped their record down to 0-18 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Friends Academy, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Lawrence suffered a grim 56-36 defeat to Friends Academy in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of O'Brien, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Now that Lawrence knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
