Baseball Recap: Glencoe Comes Up Short

Glencoe extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-8 in the process. They lost 13-7 to the Newberg Tigers. That's two games in a row now that the Crimson Tide have lost by exactly six runs.

Glencoe saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Culbertson, who went 2-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base.

As for Newberg, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Newberg's side, Zadek Bowlby was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Bowlby has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cole Thomas and Parker Sellner did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Sellner went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases Thomas has posted since back in March. Max Stone also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

While Glencoe had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
