Recap: Canutillo Eagles vs. Hanks Knights
The Canutillo Eagles came tearing into Friday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 54-45 victory over Hanks. That's another feather in the cap for Canutillo, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Canutillo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carlos Sierra led the charge by scoring nine points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Bonilla, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Despite the loss, Hanks still got an impressive performance from Israel Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Martin Gomez, who scored six points along with three steals.
Canutillo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Hanks, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-11.
Canutillo will head out on the road to face off against Parkland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Hanks, they will be playing in front of their home fans against El Paso at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
