Baseball Recap: York County Tech Spartans vs. York Catholic Fighting Irish
York County Tech had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 4-10 to make it five. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the York Catholic Fighting Irish. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Fighting Irish earlier this season, when they won 5-3.
York County Tech saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Collins, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
As for York Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On York Catholic's side, Jacob Scappa tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Scappa has posted since back in March.
At the plate, Connor Latrechiano was incredible, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Yingling, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
While York County Tech had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
