Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Licking Heights Hornets
Mt. Vernon faced off against Licking Heights in a bug-themed battle on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 3-2. The Yellowjackets haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Mt. Vernon started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-14.
Despite the defeat, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Addison Komitau, who had 25 assists and ten digs, and Callie Swanson, who had 22 assists and nine digs. Emma Wilson was another key player, getting ten digs.
Licking Heights can attribute much of their success to Abrianna Fenton, who had ten digs and two aces.
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Licking Heights, their win ended a four-match drought on the road and puts them at 10-10.
