League recap: Goodwin's hot bat leads Gardner-South Wilmington

River Valley league recap: 5/29/12

Mike Goodwin was on fire this week, as he led River Valley with a .429 average with four RBIs. His Gardner-South Wilmington team went 1-1.

After a week in which it went 1-1, Illinois Lutheran jumped from 8004 to 7422 in the national rankings, the biggest increase in the league. The Chargers are currently No. 331 in the Illinois state rankings, with an overall record of 21-8.

The Panthers' pitching staff dominated this week, allowing only 29 hits and eight walks, both of which led the league. On the season, Gardner-South Wilmington has allowed just 174 hits, while striking out 257 batters. Shane Harty leads Gardner-South Wilmington with 100 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched.

The Panthers' Chris Lardi led the league with six hits this week. His 23 hits for the year are fourth in the league, and he boasts a .315 batting average.
