Baseball Recap: Gretna East Takes Down Ranked Standing Bear

Gretna East faced Standing Bear in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Griffins skirted past the Grizzlies 7-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-4 back in March.

Drew Dowd looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kasen Brown, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jensen Albers, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Gretna East's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Standing Bear, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.
