Weaver has gone 8-2 against Ragland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Bearcats will head out to face off against the Purple Devils at 4:30 p.m. Weaver is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Weaver is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Ohatchee on Friday. They fell 4-1 to the Indians.
Weaver saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Michaels, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Ragland's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (8-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Purple Devils fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Lions since Thursday.
Kobe Embry was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out 12 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Byron Mizzell was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games he's played.
Weaver's record is now 12-12. As for Ragland, their record now sits at 8-10.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Weaver has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Ragland struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Weaver got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Ragland by a conclusive 11-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bearcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
