Softball Game Preview: Cosby Eagles vs. Monterey Wildcats

The Cosby Eagles will take on the Monterey Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cosby is looking for their season's first victory.

Friday just wasn't the day for Cosby's offense. They lost 12-0 to Morristown-Hamblen East on Friday.

Meanwhile, Monterey made easy work of Greenback on Friday and carried off an 8-2 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexandrea Novak made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylin Shepherd, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Bowman, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Monterey's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-3-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.33 hits in those games compared to only 3.6 in the others. As for Cosby, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
