Preview: Resurrection Catholic Eagles vs. West Tallahatchie Choctaws
Resurrection Catholic has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the West Tallahatchie Choctaws at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Resurrection Catholic walked away with it. They took down French Camp Academy 21-7 on Friday.
Resurrection Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniel Pickens led the charge by rushing for 93 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Schnoor, who threw for 192 yards and a touchdown on only 11 passes.
Meanwhile, West Tallahatchie put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Leake County 42-0 at home. 42 seems to be a good number for West Tallahatchie as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Issac Day and Tristian Hill were among the main playmakers for West Tallahatchie as the former rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries and the latter rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Hill was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. Rosevelt Phillips got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to West Tallahatchie's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Lester Westbrook and Phillips who racked up six sacks between them.
Resurrection Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for West Tallahatchie, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Everything came up roses for Resurrection Catholic against West Tallahatchie in their previous matchup back in November of 2019 as the team secured a 54-20 win.
