Softball Recap: Temecula Prep Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hemet, Temecula Prep was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the California Lutheran C-Hawks 24-1. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the C-Hawks: they've now won six in a row.

Jasmine Burkey made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Burkey was also big at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles. Burkey is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Sophia Ivar was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Samiyah Antoine was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

Temecula Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as California Lutheran only posted an OBP of .150.

Temecula Prep's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for California Lutheran, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Temecula Prep didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 18-6 win against Rubidoux on the 9th. As for California Lutheran, they will be playing at home against La Sierra Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the C-Hawks their first taste of in-conference action this season.
