Basketball Recap: Catholic Memorial Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Lakeside Lutheran

Catholic Memorial lost to Lakeside Lutheran back in February of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Catholic Memorial Crusaders managed a 57-53 victory over the Lakeside Lutheran Warriors. The win was all the more spectacular given the Crusaders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Warriors are ranked 20th).

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Benjamin Krauklis, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 16 points. The matchup was Krauklis' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wes Rahn, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Catholic Memorial and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for Lakeside Lutheran, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catholic Memorial and Freedom will round out the year against one another at at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. Catholic Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Freedom likes a good challenge. As for Lakeside Lutheran, they will face off against Edgewood at 6:00 p.m. on December 30th.
