Preview: Brookeland Wildcats vs. San Augustine Wolves
Brookeland is 2-8 against San Augustine since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Brookeland Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the San Augustine Wolves at 6:00 p.m. Brookeland is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
On Tuesday, Brookeland was able to grind out a solid win over Chireno, taking the game 11-6.
Zach Beckett made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (he also only allowed one walk). Beckett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Beckett wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cade Morgan, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brendan Marshall, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, even though Burkeville scored an imposing 12 runs on Tuesday, San Augustine still came out on top. San Augustine took their game against Burkeville 16-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for San Augustine.
Like Brookeland, San Augustine also got a great game from a two-way player: Brittan Nance. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Nance was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jakameron Roberts, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a stolen base. Josh Amburn was another key contributor, scoring two runs.
Brookeland now has a winning record of 3-2. As for San Augustine, their record now sits at 2-6.
Brookeland took their victory against San Augustine in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 16-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brookeland since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
