Baseball Game Preview: Piketon Redstreaks vs. Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs

The Piketon Redstreaks will head out on the road to take on the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Piketon has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Piketon came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-0 to South Webster.

Meanwhile, Lynchburg-Clay got the win against New Richmond on Saturday by a conclusive 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 16 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Christian Flowers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elam Faust, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Trevor Niehaus, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Lynchburg-Clay is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Piketon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15-1.

Piketon came out on top in a nail-biter against Lynchburg-Clay in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redstreaks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
